🌑 About Unsaid
Unsaid is a personal emotional wellness and journalling application developed for Android. It provides the following core features:
- Text Journal — private text-based diary entries with auto-generated titles.
- Voice Journal — privately stored audio diary entries, sequentially titled.
- Gratitude Journal — a daily log of up to three things you are grateful for.
- The Void — a fully anonymous public confession feed with moderation.
- Feedback — a channel to send bug reports, feature requests, or general feedback.
- Profile — account management including display name, username, and account deletion.
Unsaid is operated by an individual developer. References to "we", "us", or "our" mean the developer of Unsaid.
🔞 Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Unsaid. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that:
- You are at least 13 years of age.
- You have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms in your jurisdiction.
- You are not prohibited from using the app under any applicable law.
If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian before using the app. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts. If we become aware that a user is under 13, we will immediately delete their account and associated data.
👤 Your Account
To use most features of Unsaid, you must create an account using either an email address and password or Google Sign-In. You are responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials confidential.
- All activity that occurs under your account, whether or not authorised by you.
- Notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
You may choose a unique username (handle) and a display name during onboarding. Your username must not impersonate another person, be offensive, or violate any applicable law or regulation.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
✅ Acceptable Use
You agree to use Unsaid only for lawful, personal purposes. You must not:
- Use the app to harass, threaten, defame, or harm any person.
- Upload content that is illegal, obscene, or infringes any third-party rights.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app.
- Circumvent any rate limits, cooldowns, or security measures (including The Void's 6-hour cooldown).
- Use automated scripts, bots, or other tools to access or interact with the app.
- Upload malicious files or content designed to disrupt the app or its infrastructure.
- Attempt to access another user's private data.
Violation of these rules may result in immediate account suspension or termination, at our sole discretion and without prior notice.
🌀 The Void — Anonymous Confessions Rules Apply
The Void allows you to post anonymous confessions visible to all users of the app. While we engineer this feature to protect your identity, you accept the following rules and risks:
- Your Firebase UID is never stored alongside a Void post — anonymity is by design.
- You may only post once every 6 hours, enforced via a device-local anonymous token.
- Posts that receive 4 or more flags from other users are automatically and permanently deleted.
- Because posts are anonymous and unlinked to your account, they cannot be deleted when you delete your account.
We reserve the right to remove any Void post at our discretion, with or without notice.
📓 Journal & Gratitude Content
Your text journal entries, voice journal recordings, and gratitude entries are private. They are stored securely and are accessible only to your authenticated account. You retain full ownership of the content you create inside Unsaid.
By using these features, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, transmit, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. We do not use your private journal content to train machine learning models, serve advertisements, or for any purpose other than delivering the app's features.
- Text journals are stored in Cloud Firestore, private to your account.
- Voice recordings are stored in Firebase Storage, private to your account.
- Gratitude entries are stored in Cloud Firestore, private to your account.
🎙️ Voice Recording Microphone Permission
The Voice Journal feature requires the RECORD_AUDIO Android permission. By granting this permission, you authorise the app to access your device's microphone only when you are actively recording a voice journal entry inside the app.
- The microphone is never accessed in the background or without your explicit action.
- Recordings are uploaded to Firebase Storage and linked to your account UID.
- You may delete any voice entry at any time from within the app.
You may revoke the microphone permission at any time through your device's system settings. Doing so will disable the Voice Journal feature but will not affect other app functionality.
💬 Feedback Submissions
When you submit feedback through the Feedback page, you agree that:
- The feedback is submitted voluntarily and you grant us the right to use it to improve the app.
- Feedback content must not include personal data of third parties or any unlawful material.
- Feedback submissions are stored in Firestore linked to your user ID and email address.
- We may contact you at the email address associated with your account to follow up on your feedback.
We do not guarantee that all feedback will result in product changes or that we will respond to every submission.
🔔 Push Notifications
Unsaid may request permission to send you push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). Notification permission is entirely optional. You may:
- Grant or deny notification permission when prompted by the app.
- Revoke notification permission at any time through your device's system settings.
We will not send unsolicited marketing notifications. Notifications sent by the app are limited to app-relevant content (e.g., reminders relevant to your journalling).
🗑️ Account Termination & Data Deletion
You may delete your account at any time from the Profile page. Upon deletion, the following data is permanently removed:
- Your Firebase Authentication account.
- Your Firestore user profile (display name, username, email, and related fields).
- All your text journal entries.
- All your gratitude entries.
- All your voice recordings from Firebase Storage.
- Your username reservation.
- Your locally cached display name (SharedPreferences).
Not removed on account deletion:
- Anonymous Void posts — these have no UID attached and cannot be traced back to you.
- Feedback submissions — retained for product improvement. Contact us to request manual deletion.
We also reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we determine that you have violated these Terms. In such cases, we may or may not delete your data at our discretion.
©️ Intellectual Property
All rights, title, and interest in and to the Unsaid app — including its design, codebase, branding, and features — are owned exclusively by the developer. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our name, logo, or other intellectual property.
You retain ownership of all content you create (journal entries, voice recordings, gratitude items). You grant us only the minimal licence needed to provide the service, as described in Section 6.
